We're planning to see a show in London this July and we've seen some websites offering discount tickets. Has anyone used a discount site and do you trust those sites? Should we just pay more through Ticketmaster or someone like that?
IMO, the safest site for buying tickets in advance is Official London Theatre. From what I've read, I'm sure you also can trust Theatremonkey. Even if you don't book from them, you might want to use the site to see theatre seating charts.
I personally wouldn't use them. Those sort of sites have been featured in consumer TV programmes on British TV. I always use ticketmaster or the online booking section of the theatre's own website if they have one.
TKTS is where you want to go, nowhere else is as good. They are in London and New York City.
We use Albemarle's of London. They are reliable and have diagrams of the theatres' seating so you can check sight lines.
I used Londontown the last time I was there, and got great seats to Spamalot. Normally they were 70 pounds for the seats and I paid 55.
Melissa, I always check theatremonkey.com which I've found is quite reliable in terms of info on ticket brokers.
For discount tickets, I usually buy at the TKTS booth. You can get an idea of what might be available at the TKTS booth at this website
http://www.officiallondontheatre.co.uk/tkts/whats_on_today/. This website is updated daily. On my visit last month I got discount tickets for Jersey Boys, La Cage, and 39 Steps. TKTS had also just changed so that they are now selling some discount tickets in advance. It used to be you could only buy on the day of the show.
lastminute.com is also reputable. I have not purchased theatre tickets through them, but have booked hotels. I always use the UK site rather than the US site.
