London Theatre Packages

I'm interested is seeing a show during our visit to London in late April/early May. I've found several websites that offer tickets only and some that offer tickets and a dinner. The surprising thing is that the price for the tickets only is higher than the price for tickets and a dinner. Both are stall seats. Are some stall seats more expensive than others? Is the website that includes the dinner legitimate? Here are the details. The following site (www.albemarle-london.com) offered tickets F21-F24 to see Les Mis on May 1 for 84 pound each. The dinner package site (www.Londontheatredirect.com) offers tickets Q24-Q27 plus dinner at L"Escargot for 67 pound each. Is this possible? Is L'Escargot a good restaurant? Any other suggestions to purchase tickets in advance? Thanks.

First- Albemarle's of London is a very good company- we have used them many times in the past. Second- row F, seats 21-24 are very good seats. Row Q is further back. I like that you can see diagrams of the theatre seating on their site. I have also heard good things about Theatremonkey (read about them on TripAdvisor). I am not familiar with the other company, nor with the restaurant. And yes, ticket prices do vary in the stalls, depending on location- at least that has been our experience. We tried the package deals a few time in the distant past, and found we prefred an early, very light meal on theatre nights, so we quit paying for 'fancy', which is what most of the packages offer. Many, many restaurants, and even pubs, offer pre-theatre deals so you will have lots to pick from. Another thing you might consider- for a long running production like Le Mis, you could probably get fairly good tickets at the Leciester Square TKTS booth (usualy 1/2 price) on the day of. Something to think about.

Can't comment on a theatre package. With the exception of Maggie Smith's "Lady in a Van," a number of years ago, have always gotten theatre tickets at the Leicester Square 1/2 price ticket booth. http://www.tkts.co.uk/ Never been disappointed. Still chuckle that one year we saw the quintessential American musical Guys and Dolls. One of the best theatre productions I have EVER enjoyed. We sat in the stalls. Fabulous!! I agree with the previous poster plenty of restaurant and pubs offer excellent pre theatre dining meals. IF you were to see the Mousetrap at St. Martin's in Covent Garden this place is around the corner: http://www.bills-website.co.uk/ Simply a-for-an-example restaurant choice. Theatre in London is great fun. Enjoy!
