I am very excited to ride the Routemaster in London. It seems like these are the best way to see London. I am also planning to do the hop on hop off bus, but am wondering if the Heritage bus routes might be even more fun. We're staying near South Kensington so I think one of the routes goes near there. Can people who have ridden these routes chime in and tell us all which one is the best? Or even which London bus route you liked?

It is bus routes 9 and 15. The 9 starts at the Royal Albert Hall in Kensington and the 15 ends at the Tower of London. I prefer the 15 route.
I wouldn't say it is the best way to see London but it is a unique way.
The hop on and off buses are very good and go everywhere with good commentary.
