London's Grand Union Canal and Regents Canal

We're taking two old teens to London and will see most of the usual attractions. In addition, we want to walk a part of the canal towpath. Is the Little Venice area a must-see, or could we get just as good a towpath walk along the canal with (hopefully)lots of narrowboats by starting farther east and walking from Camden Town to the London Canal Museum? Thanks.

Hey Judy. I am a junior in college studying abroad in London this spring. I went to the Regent Canal and walked it from Little Venice to Camden Town. It was about 2 miles i think but it was really fun. The walk was in the book, Eyewitness London. I really suggest the book.

My point is just that the walk was really fun (there was one part that was kind of drab). Little Venice ain't got nothing on real Venice but its still pleasant. There are a ton of the skinny boats by Little Venice though. There is a little cafe that stretches over the canal with good views. Camden Town would be really cool for teenagers too. Lots of stalls with clothes that are open everyday.

Some pictures are up on my blog in this entry. http://jeremybydlon.blogspot.com/2008/01/baby-its-cold-outside.html

You can have a look if you like. London is really amazing and its awesome that you're looking for some different things to do with your kids. I hope you have fun. If you have any more questions, e-mail me!

Jeremy, you are so LUCKY to be missing out on this miserable, cold, looooooong Wisconsin/Minnesota winter this year!! I'm looking forward to a reprieve in London, that's for sure!

Thanks for the info. I will look up the book Eyewitness London. Also read your blog. Fun. We're going to be punting on the Cam also and winding up the day at The Anchor. I know the kids will love it there!

What got me started on the canal theme was a mystery, Inspector Morse, 'The Wench is Dead' which is about a 19th century canal murder that was never solved. (until Morse steps in, of course) Anyway, we then saw Skipton Canal last spring and the wonderful narrowboats, so are really looking forward to the canal walk from, as you mentioned, Little Venice to Camden Town. Thanks so much for your response. Enjoy London!
