We will be in London in early September and wanted to go to a nice garden or park to walk around. We will in the Southbank area and wanted some nice area that had some good landscaping and flowers. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
The BEST garden in London is Kew Gardens. It IS quite large, but a great place to walk! It's easy to get to on the Tube. Well worth the trip.... absolutely one of my favortie places in London.
There are nice gardens just across from South Bank along the Embankment. They are small, but very pleasant. From South Bank, just cross the pedestrian bridge (Jubilee bridge) and turn right after crossing. This site has a video

London is full of free parks. One of my favorites is St James's Park near Buckingham Palace. Then of course other royal parks likes Hyde Park, Green Park or somewhere further out like Hampsted Heath which is also free.
Southbank is my favorite area is makes a nice walk from end to end. There are places to sit and little parks tucked here and there.
Kew is nice too but outside of the center and expensive. I had a membership and went frequently but unless you make it a full day's outing it is not really worth it unless you are really into gardens.
I'm with Jenufa all the way. I really like Green Park and St. James' Park. They are next door to each other. As you walk down The Mall with Buckingham Palace behind you Green Park is on your left and St James' Park is on the right.
St James Park is so beautiful, there is a stone bridge in the park as you walk over the bridge you have a fantastic view of Buckingham Palace. Green Park is also worth a visit.
I stayed in a hotel near Kensington Gardens and enjoyed visiting them. There is a lovely Peter Pan statue. Of course, Kensington Gardens is where Peter Pan went to live among the fairies when he overheard adults talking about what he would be like as a grownup. Pam
Hi, Suzann - go to www.opensquares.org - this mainly refers to one weekend in the year when you can visit gardens normally not open to the public in London. It also lists lots of "gardens to discover you didn't know existed." This website has maps and enticing photos.
Hyde Park has a rose garden. It is near Apsley House.
Regents Park near the Baker Street tube station should be beautiful in September.
For mood reading, Ruth Rendell's "Keys to the Street" is set in and around Regent's Park.
I adore Regents Park. Very beautiful and a manageable size. It's my favorite in London.
