London is getting ready for the 2012 Olympic Games. If you've been there recently and were disappointed by limitations caused by renovating or partial closures of major museum collections or sights, your input would be greatly appreciated. For example, I wanted to visit Kensington Palace but their historic fashions and costumes have been safely packed away during rebuilding and I believe some of the State Apartments are closed as well. Do you know of any other closures or "reorganization" that would seriously impact our visit? Time and energy are precious. I'm leaving in two weeks and would like to know if I should revamp my itinerary of the major sights and attractions. Thanks for your thoughts - it could save disappointment and heartache. Cheers.
All the Olympic venues are outside the touristy city center, the construction should have zero impact on your visit. The restoration of Kensington Place isn't related to the Olympics. For the latest info on closures, special exhibits, and operating hours go directly to the museum's website or checkout Timeout London:
The State Apartments at Kensington Palace are open.
I heard somewhere that there will be a lot of trouble with the Tube (closures and such) while they're getting it ready for Olympics. Not sure how great an impact that will be to people visiting in Central London next year though.
