Andreas has given some good general information, but there will be other closures on particular lines. Full details can be found at http://www.tfl.gov.uk/gettingaround/26367.aspx. Lines are closed for engineering work to be carried out, such as the lines themselves or signalling being upgraded. This work can only be done if no trains are running, and the Christmas and New Year period is the least busy time of the year.

Andreas, did you see the bit in red below that about the Underground? It said that if the Underground drivers went on strike it would have major impact on the Underground on Boxing Day. The drivers did vote and did decide to strike on Boxing Day (the 4th year in a row). Don't expect anything like a normal Underground service on Boxing Day - if anything moves at all.
