Has anyone done an "organized" pub walk/tour such as http://www.walks.com/? I am debating it and wanted to see if its really worth it or hit the pubs myself. Thanks!
I've done them and they're fun. You get a guided historical tour along the way and also stop at a few for a pint. Met some interesting people as well.
I've done quite a few of the walks from London Walks and have never been disappointed.
But if all you want to do is drink, then skip the walk. You can drink anywhere.
Take a look at this website: www.aletrails.com/londonheritage.html. and accompanying book: "London Pub Walks".
Karlye,
The walks are not really about drinking as much as about seeing a an area of London. During the walk, you will generally stop at two pubs for about 20 minutes each and end the walk at a third. Often the pubs are quite interesting or historic.
I've taken quite a few of the pub walks. The Hampstead and Chelsea pub walks are two of my favorites.
As a previous poster mentioned the walk, which I did on New Year's Eve, was not about the pubs so much as a history tour. However,as a solo woman traveler, the pub walk gave me a great way to have a few drinks and some company on the holiday evening. If you are into big drinking, go on your own, but for history and company and a few nice pubs, go for it.
