My wife and I were toying with going to London anyway when we heard about the annual London Open House (www.londonopenhouse.org) which has sealed the deal. Has anybody attended this event? It sounds great. We'd like to know what to expect.

Oh, it's wonderful! They have versions of this all over the UK. Make sure you get hold of the list as soon as it is published as some events need booking. The worst part is trying to choose which one to go to or trying to fit in several visits in two days! What to expect will depend on which place you choose. Some places have guided tours and others just allow you to wander around areas of buildings you would not normally be allowed into.
