Tomorrow is my last day in London and I'm going to the the British museum but I can't decided whether to go to the library or galleries. I will be going to to the louvre and the hermitage, is it worth my time to go to the national gallery? I really want to see vincent van gogh's sunflowers. But at the library I want to see the Magna Carta. since the museums are both free can I rush to both artifacts and skip the audio guides and see them? I know the library is open to 2000. But I have a Harry Potter tour at 1930. What should I do?
The Magna Carta is on display at the British Library not the British Museum. The National Gallery is one of the finest art museums in the world. If you are into art it's a must-see attraction. It's not a crime to just go in to see one or two paintings you're in tio, since it's free it's very easy to do.
The British Library is pretty close to the British Museum. The BL has grouped their 'must sees' in one room. Very easy to take it all in in about an hour.
Nancy knows of what she speaks. A mile walk between the two. The British Museum with all the Egyptian artifacts could take a day. personally I'd see the Magna Carta and other treasures at the British Library. Sir John Ritblatt Gallery is fabulous. Double check but I think Vincent's Sunflowers is on loan to a museum in Amsterdam and not on display. Check their website. national gallery.org.uk
If it is then you might want to see the Impressionists and Post Impressionists at the Courtauld Gallery instead. There is a fee. Or simply enjoy other fine works of art hanging in the National Gallery.
Well, I guess by now Ian has made his choices and done the Hogwarts thing too. How did it all go, Ian? ;)
