You are joking, right? Are you saying you are traveling all the way to London with a child and an elderly person with no plans and no idea what to do? If you are still in the Bay Area get thee to a bookstore or library and get the guidebook. Read it on the flight and discuss in your group. How soon "this week"? Tomorrow is the last day of this week.

Kathy, The site doesn't like me today. I've tried twice to private message you with a hotel suggestion. Try the London Vicarage Hotel in Kensington if all of your party can do stairs. If not, try the search function on the site for hotels with elevators. Send me a private message if you want more info about the hotel or my input on London activities for an 11 year old. We were in London in 2004 with our 11 year old son.

For your lodging, I'd consider the Hiltons. There are several London locations. For your 80 year old you need to be sure to stay in an elevator building. The Paddington Hilton is connected to the Paddington station by a footbridge, and is conveniently located. http://www1.hilton.com/en_US/hi/hotel/LONPDHI-Hilton-London-Paddington-hotel/index.do As to what to do that will entertain all ages, I would suggest The Tower of London, Westminster Abbey, and The British Museum. Add to that the hop on hop off bus tour around the city which gives you a glimpse of the sites without the 80 year old having to do a ton of walking. There are two companies in London who offer hop-on, hop-off double-decker bus tours around town. They both drive by about 30 of the city's highlights. I too have traveled with an 11 year old and 80 year old. It does work. Original Hard Rock Cafe is not too far from Buckingham Palace. Teens like the displays. Taste of home is sometimes a treat. Hop on and hop off bus is good suggestion. Check for live guide rather than recording which is difficult for older people to hear.
