London/Ireland/Italy

I apologize in advance for the general question. My husband and I are planning at trip next May to England and Italy. We were initially going to take the Eurostar to Paris as well but my husband has now expressed an interest in Ireland instead. We are flying on free miles so I want to book our return flight as soon as they become available -- I have already booked our outgoing flight from Chicago to London. My question is if it is a good idea to travel from London to Ireland and stay for 3 nights or 4 nights maximum and then fly to Pisa? I know next to nothing about Ireland but am planning to pick up Rick's books if we decide to do this. We are most interested in the scenic areas along the coast. Thanks for your suggestions.

Debbie,

Your decision to visit Ireland might depend upon the availability/ cost of flying hom from Dublin or from Italy. I am not sure if there is a "major" airport near Pisa, but it might make sense to go to Italy before Ireland because (I would believe that) there would be more flights from Dublin back to Chicago. Also, if you're going to be in Ireland for 3-4 nights, stay within striking distance of Dublin. You can cover all of Dub's major sights, plus give yourselves a bit of decompression time before heading back to Chicago. Good luck and have a great trip!!

How long is your trip in total? If you have 1 week (or more) for London, the 1 week for Rome, you really should try ot give Ireland a week. If you don't have that much time, I'd think about just doing London and Rome/Italy. Or London and Ireland. Save one for the next trip. If you hadn't already booked you flight over, I'd say start in Ireland (land in either Shannon or Dublin) then go to England then Itlay. But.... So if you do try to do all 3 I'd suggest checking out the suggesstion above- London, Rome, Ireland.

Thanks for the replies. We decided to save Ireland for another trip and now are doing London & Italy with a couple of nights in Paris.
