London - Inexpensive Stay

I spent a few months in London, student teaching. I was set up in a dorm, so I've never had to find a place to stay in London. My husband and I are going in the beginning of June, only for a couple nights. We're looking for a place to stay that is fairly inexpensive but with a good location. Ideas? Thank you!

Go to www.travelodge.co.uk. Sign up and get their early notices of cheap rooms in London. We've stayed 5 nights at Marleybone for 45 GBP, around $70USD. Another good bet is the London School of Economics, Lse.ac.uk.com I think. They let rooms at various time thru the year and some are right on Trafalgar Square.

Andrea, location is realitve. it will depend on what you want to do/see/eat. i just tried the London School of Economics dorm Passfield Hall near Kings X and it was acceptable. its a dorm afterall. i choose it cuz it was close to Kings X where i was going to take a train to Leeds the next day. they have several dorms around central(if you can call it that) london. i forgot to add that it would have to be during break too. but they also have apartments for rent. i havent looked into them yet, but next year if i stay a few days, i will. if you want really budget, try the easyhotel. they have a queen size bed and bathroom pod. its just someplace to sleep and take a dump. but they are usually < 100 USD. nothing fancy either. they are clean too but they nickel and dime you for everything extra....new towels, window, tv remote.... happy tralis.

What's your idea of "fairly inexpensive?" Means different things to different people. Do you have a dollar range in mind?

We have stayed at Cherry Court Hotel near Victoria Station 3 times now. The las time we spent 55 lbs a night for a very, very tiny double. The location, price and safety is great. Look them up! Remember I said small rooms.

Not sure how you feel about staying with someone else, but we used airbnb.com, stayed with a fellow who was near the Oval cricket grounds, within a 10 min walk to major tube lines (Victoria and Northern lines), and you can come and go as you please (and interact or not interact with the host as you please...) https://www.airbnb.ca/rooms/315658
He's charging about $75 a night...may be more in the summer. We only stayed one night, but I'd stay again when we go back. Depends on whether you want hotel or not. Also would let you use the kitchen/fridge/stove - save on meals!

You could try the premier inn chain. Sign up on the website as they frequently have sales. They have many locations in the London area - I've stayed in the one in the City and also the one in Kensington. Clean, reasonable sized rooms. http://www.premierinn.com/
