London in 24 hr.--Kensington accommodations--recommendations to/from

My husband & I have a 24 hr. layover in London on our return trip from Italy to the U.S. We will be flying into Gatwick at 1:15 p.m and out of Heathrow the next day at 1:00p.m. Any suggestions on how much time to allow to get to the airport for our departure. We booked a room via. Priceline (Hilton Kingsington Olympia) for $90. Thanks!

From South Kensington tube and if all goes well on the tube line, you shouldn't need more than an hour. You won't have much sightseeing time on the second day unless you are early birds!

Janet,

One small bit of advice for you on Olympia. We have stayed at the Hilton Olympia before. It is nice to stay at the Hilton in London for those prices but the one drawback is that it is less connected to the tube system then most places.

If you look at a tube map the Olympia stop is on a spur of the district line. The Olympia stop is actually overground. The tube runs more like a bus schedule (3/4 per hour) from here than the standard every 2/3 minutes runs.

Nothing wrong with this just beware that you will need to factor in about 15 minutes to either walk with your luggage down to Earl's Court to get directly on the Picadilly Line or to wait for the tube at Olympia and do a transfer at Earls Court.

I would agree give 45-60 minutes to get out to Heathrow on the Picadilly line. You will already be at the edge of Zone 1 when you get on at Earls Court.
