London hotels near St Pancras Station

3 of us are taking the Eurostar from Paris to London (05/23-05/29) & would like recommendations on low-moderately priced accommodations in the vicinity (single+double ensuite or 2 bedroom apartment), walking distance from the station if possible. Wikitravel recommends Alhambra Hotel in Bloomsbury-any comments?

I haven't stayed at the Alhambra Hotel, but here is what my Lonely Planet London guidebook says about it:

"About the best budget option around here, the Alhambra has 52 simple and spotless rooms, friendly French- and English-speaking staff, and is close to two mainline stations for getaways."

Stella,

I stayed at the Alhambra Hotel in June 2009, a very nice place in all aspects, except for the size of the room, but that's to be expected in London for a B&B. The hotel is on Argyle street which right across from King's Cross/St. Pancras station. Definitely within walking distance...just a few minuites; for single without the facilities the cost was 50 pounds. The whole area around King's Cross is full of B&B establishments, Alhambra is a bit higher than the others. But it is also newer, more spruced up than the others in the area. Alhambra does have single and double en-suite rooms too. Bottom line: would I stay at Alhambra again...yes!!

There are several good options along Argyle Street. As mentioned very easy to walk to the station from it. The best places are small, but cheap and clean (50-65 pounds). I would use tripadvisor to zero in on that works for you.

If you are willing to walk about 10 minutes there is an Ibis at Euston that provides a little more substance for about 10 pounds more)

As mentioned above there are lots of very similar places around Argylle Square for 50-70 GBP which is directly opposite the station..

Alhumbra is one of them but you pay a premium for it having chased mentions in lots of guide books. Its a solid option but always seems fishy how it alone gets into the guide books, when others just as good are not.

Other cheaper ones very similar are Meridiana, Montana Excel, Wardonia, California and Crestfield Hotels.

We stayed at the Ibis Euston, as we were catching the Eurostar to Paris. About a 12 min. walk to St.Pancras.
