London Hotels for a Group

I'm taking a group of women to London in August 2012 (just after the Olympics) and looking for a clean, reasonably priced, centrally located hotel that will accommodate 12-16 women. Many of the hotels I've used in the past are telling me they won't rent more than 4 rooms at a time and are "getting out of groups." Not looking for a chain hotel. Any suggestions? thanks!

Check out the London School of Economics. They have several good locations near tube stations in the heart of London. They have apartments as well as single and double rooms. You get a kitchen or kitchen access as well as access to student services such as the laundry room. Here is their website

If, by chance, any of the women are in the military or are military veterans then you can stay at the Union Jack Club (clean and well-located; prices were okay for us). They have apartments for active duty/vets and their guests. Though they might limit the number of guests allowed. That might be a long shot suggestion, but thought I'd share the info. just in case.

It's still not the easiest of times to book... just after the Olympics leads into the Paralympics at the end of August, start of September. Many places aren't even booking for next July yet. And I've found that some that ARE booking, are keeping their rates higher for the summer. Good luck with your search, hopefully something turns up.

I recently stayed at Vandon House Hotel with my brother and nephew. There were several groups there at the same time (one was a women's group and two others were student groups). Location is great, near Buckingham Palace and price was right. Vandon House is owned by a private college in Iowa, so perhaps you can contact them in Iowa or through their web site in London: http://www.vandonhouse.com/.

Thanks, everyone, for the help. It's funny you mentioned Vandon Houseit's the first place I checked (I'm a Central College professor and they own the facility), but they're moving to a new location over Christmas break next winter and won't commit to anything, because they're not sure where they'll be yet. I love the idea of the London School of Economics, too. Right now, they, too, won't commit until they know what they've got left from the Olympics. Thanks again!

Valerie, I would email Luna and Simone, explain your situation and ask for a time to call them. Then in your call, if they won't or can't reserve enough rooms for your group, maybe they could help you split the group up into 2 or 3 bunches and they would work with you on other hotels in their area. L & S is near Victoria Station in a great area with plenty of restaurants & the #24 bus goes right by the front door. You can check out their website and read about them in Rick's London book. I just stayed with them in May for 5 nights and they were very accommodating. They are family run (twin brothers). It is basic (no lift), but clean, nice bathrooms, a flat screen tv and tea making equipment and breakfast is included.

Perhaps a chain hotel such as Ibis might be your best option at this time??!!
