London Hotel near Paddington

We will be passing through London near year and want a hotel near Paddington Station. A couple of years ago we stayed in the area at Royal Court Apartments. They were barely OK. Suggestions anyone?

If you are calling £100 not too pricey, I wonder if you should not call it really-really-cheap, by London standards.

I agree with Claudia that there are many hotels near Paddington Station. It's a good location for London sightseeing. In September, my wife and I stayed at the Hotel Indigo a short walk from Paddington. It was very nice and had a real king sized bed. The bathroom was tight but it had a nice sized shower. It's pretty pricey but I got to spend hotel points.

Well, "pretty pricy" would not be what I'm looking for! "Not too pricy" would be better. Hyde Park Radnor might be OK, it's about $160.

It's expensive but I had a very enjoyable stay at the Hilton that is attached to Paddington last year. You can't beat a one floor lift/elevator ride from the back of the hotel and then 15 minutes run for Heathrow Central for Terminals 1 and 3--add an additional 6 minutes for terminal 5 and for terminal 4 you would have to take a transfer train which runs every 15 minutes. If you are not using a Britrail pass, there are two options to get to Heathrow: the Express which is non stop to Heathrow Central and the Connect which makes stops on the way and takes about double the time. If you are using a Britrail pass, it does not matter which one you take! To check your terminal you can look at www.heathrowairport.com

In april this year I stayed at NUMBER 63 (hotel) about a 10 minute walk from Paddington. There are several hotels in that area and it is somewhat nicer than the area right around Paddington. It is across the street from Kensington Gardens and Hyde Park, next door to the Swan pub, and 1/2 block from Lancaster Gate tube station. Rates were reasonable and it had an elevator. Nice people. Run by Soroptimists, but open to all. For my dinner one evening I ordered a meat pie and it arrived piping hot with salad, etc. I think they brought it over from the pub.
