In 1987, my husband & I stayed at the Eros Hotel near Piccadilly Circus and Haymarket above a McDonald's. I loved the central location. Not a great place, but reasonably priced and adequate. It isn't in London 2013, so is it gone or nor recommended? What can you tell me. My friend and I are going May 5.

Not finding anything on tripadvisor.com other than Eros statue. Nothing on google. Are you certain that it was not a hotel by another name near the Eros statue? Just checked google maps. There was, at one time, a McDonalds on Shaftesbury Ave near Picadilly, but it is apparently no longer there. Perhaps the hotel was in the same building and the building has since been converted to another use.
