My group of 4 will be a part of the Steeler Nation arriving in London on Fri. 9-27 staying until 10-2. Besides Sunday game day would like to explore the city one day and day trips the other two. Was in London for 2 days 15 yrs. ago. Big Masterpiece/Downtown Abbey etc. fan. Want to go beyond usual museum route and see the countryside, too. Authentic dining (mostly casual) recommendations most welcome! Thanks
What an awesome trip! We went to Stockholm to see the Pens play a few years ago and had a lot of fun. As luck would have it, we will be flying home from Manchester the day of the game and thought about staying an extra day to go to the game. I just couldn't work out the logistics in a way that would enable me to end the trip on anything but a super hectic note. So now I can't even watch the game. :( If it were me, I'd spend all my time in London because there is so much to do. But since you've been there before, you know what you would enjoy the most. There are endless day trips from London. Windsor is really close and easy. Further afield, you could go to Bath, Canterbury, Oxford, Cambridge, etc. I like Bath the best - beautiful Georgian architecture, Roman baths, a nice abbey. Sorry I can't help you with Masterpiece/Downton Abbey sites. I can't recommend specific restaurants, but my favorite thing to eat in London is fish and chips. There are lots of take out places - easy, cheap, filling and delicious. Have fun and go Steelers!
