London during wimbledon

We are planning a London trip for next year. should we avoid the dates of Wimbledon, as we are not interested in seeing tennis while we are there?

I've been in the city during the tennis tournament, and there's no reason to steer clear. It won't effect your sightseeing, or your ability to get a hotel room etc. All you have to do is ignore it. But, there's a bigger sporting event being held in London next summer you need to be aware of...it's called the Olympics:) Next summer may not be the best time to visit if your not into track & field:)

Thanks, we have already eliminated the dates of the Olympics. I read on another forum that hotels are crowded and more expensive during Wimbledon.

Hotels are certainly busier in London during the Wimbledon fortnight, but by no means full. The majority of visitors to the tournement are British and travel up for the day. The players and their entourage are rich enough to rent Wimbledon villas for the period, so take up little space in central London. One good thing is that as the tennis fans spend all day in Wimbledon, the queues for London attractions can be shorter.

We have been in London and around England during Wimbledon- no noticeable effect of increased crowds or prices. I wouldnt worry about it.
