London City Airport and BMI

Flying from London to Stockholm. Any reason not to use the London City Airport as opposed to Gatwick or Heathrow? And, anyone have experience with BMI to Scandinavia?

I've used London City a number of times when taking flights from London. In the past, it was my preferred airport in London as it is tiny. You are typically bussed to the plane out on the tarmac where you walk up the steps. Coming back into LCY, immigration is incredibly fast; it beats LHR and LGW any day in this regard. A couple of things you might want to consider ... depending on where you are staying in London, you might find LHR or LGW easier to get to. There is a DLR stop at LCY so you can reach it on public transit, but you may have to make 1 or 2 transfers on tube to get to DLR. Check your route on tfl.gov.uk and make sure there are no closures/planned engineering works on your day of travel. I've never experienced a long queue for security at LCY; everytime I have flown out of LCY, it has taken no more than 10 minutes to get through the queue. However the last time I used LCY was in April 2009. After the underwear bomber in Dec 2009, I saw a number of posts (either on tripadvisor or flyertalk) where business travelers complained about how security had become a complete nightmare at LCY as they were unprepared for tighter checks after this event. I hope that they have fixed it since then, but you may want to check this out. I have never flown BMI to Scandinavia, but have flown both SAS and BA to Stockholm out of LHR with no problems.

I flew LCY to Luxembourg at Easter 2010 and had no excessive delays at security. That was a fairly small plane though, so it might take longer if they're loading a bigger one.
