I arrive into Galeway Airport next week for 3 days in London and then plan to take the Chunnel to Paris. Where do I buy my Chunnel ticket?
Do you mean Gatwick Airport? Tickets for rail passage through the Chunnel are with Eurostar, google their website and you can purchase online.
Yes, I did mean Gatwick. Can I also purchase the ticket in London at a rail station?
As far as I know, Eurostar tickets can be purchased online or at the London ticket office at St Pancras International Train Station.
Lisa - The farther ahead you buy your Eurostar ticket on line, the better fare you'll get.
I have tried multiple times to purchase the ticket on line but the very last step in the process says "Please submit your Verified by Visa password" and when I enter the password that I created for the Eurostar account, I get an error message that my password is incorrect.
Interestingly enough, the Eurostar system would not take my VISA, but I was able to successfully complete the transaction using my MasterCard.
I ran into the same problem. Essentially it was my US bank blocking what their computers flagged as a suspicious charge. They couldnt imagine that anyone would buy a rail ticket in Europe from the US. I finally had to call my credit card company, get a rep who agreed to monitor it and let it go through, and then call the rail company directly. It was frustrating. Still, the savings made the hassle worthwhile.
Lisa, "Verified by Visa" is an additional security layer on your Visa card that you can sign up for. The system protects Visa cards from unauthorized online use with a personal "Verified by Visa" password. That password would NOT be the same as the password you registered on the Eurostar website; it is attached to your credit card. . . It sounds like the website wants the additional security confirmation if you use a Visa card, but maybe not with a Mastercard.
No, no. That's one-way.
Lisa,, exactly what Lola said,, your Verified by Visa password has nothing to do with the one you created for Eurostar.. and there are steps you can, and should, take to buy your ticket online , as far in advance as possible. Frankly it may already be too late to get any reasonable price ,,, I have always booked far in advance,, for high season travel, and never paid more then 80 GBPs.. for a return ticket.. I think you will be surprised at what you will be paying. At this point, I would be checking out some discount airlines, it still may be cheaper to fly. If money is not an issue, then you can walk in a buy a ticket. I would arrive an hour or so before train to do so, and travel during non peak commuting hours, with tues. wed and thurs being slightly less busy. Good luck !
Thanks all! It's certainly a lesson-learned for the future. I paid $103 yesterday for the Eurostar to Paris next Wednesday which I didn't think was too bad.
Lisa,, thats a great price,, is that for a return ticket,, if it is ,, that is simply a great price for being so last minute so to speak!
I definitely agree with the posts which say to buy your tickets as soon as possible. We took the Chunnel on May 22. I checked one day and it said there were just four seats left on my particular train. I ignored it and thought it couldnt be true. When I went to book it the next day, I had to pay something like $40 per person more. Booking on-line is quite convenient. Make sure you allow enought time to check in, as you go through security like you do at the airport. Elaine
