Planning on visiting London for 6 nights in July. Looking for a B&B-type experience (small, quaint, social) with traditional English Breakfast, not too far from city center (maybe as far as Kensington?), yet in a not-too-seedy neighborhood. Moderately priced... Any good suggestions? Thanks!
Mark,
My daughter and I have had good luck at two B&B "networks" - At Home in London, and London Home to Home. Each one has locations scattered around London and environs, with a range of prices depending on the amenities and distance from town. The lodgings tend to be guest rooms in someone's private house; I have really enjoyed the interactions with our hostesses. Last August we stayed 4 minutes walk from the Gloucester Road tube stop in a nice apartment with twin beds and shared bath, for 75 GBP including a great breakfast - and lots of interesting discussions about health care!
Have a great trip.
The Luna & Simone near Victoria - it's been run by the same family for 30 years. More of a hotel than B&B, but it gets consistently good reviews and has been featured in many guidebooks.
I agree with Steve. London Vicarage Hotel in Kensington is in a quiet neighborhood, near shops and underground. If you stay there, be sure to walk over to Kensington Palace and take the tour. The tea room there is great, too.
