How is London during Christmas and New Years? Weather, Holiday crowds, transportation, day trips, etc.
We thought it was great fun in London. All the decorations, holiday bussle etc. The days are very short, the weather is well, you are talking London here (cold and damp). Holiday crowds were nothing to take exception to, transportation if you are planning on going outside of London is probably much heavier the closer you get to Christmas (same as here). I suspect most sights are closed Christmas and New Years (we returned home for Christmas Eve and Day). I'd do it again which I guess says alot. Do bundle up and try and stay in a nice B&B.
Do you have any recommendations for B&B? I have never been there before but thinking about going around New Years. Thank you.
From a visitors perspective the only day that will significantly impact your experience will be Christmas Day itself. There is no public transport at all and nothing is open.
If you want to eat outside your hotel you will probbaly need to find an 'ethnic' restaurant where Xmas Day isn't recognised.
Nothing much to do except roam the streets on Xmas Day - which with a positive attitude and planning could be a highlight of your trip.
