My husband and I plan to visit London and Ireland with 3 teenagers this summer. I need advice on transportation between these places, where to go, which city in Ireland, where to stay, how to make it all work. Any reccomendations will be appreciated. We will, probably, be limited to 7 days.
With 7 days, you will be very limited. Did you include travel days in that count? If so, you wind up with only 5 touring days. Loose one of those getting between London and Ireland. I'd suggest you pick either London or 1 destination in Ireland.
Personally, my kids LOVED London and were only mildly interested in Ireland.
At the end of this post, I'll put a link to an article I wrote about basing in London and doing day trips by train. A week (even only 5 days)in London is one of my favorite short breaks! Feel free to private message me.
NOTE- if it asks for a zip code, use 28208. And if it goes to current issues, click on archives and select Jan/Feb 2008.

If you go to Eire, skip the cities with such a short timeframe. Focus on a region/province and you'll find you can keep plenty busy.
If you have any ancestoral connections, that can help inform your decision on where and what to see.
A car is going to be your best bet. It is a bit intimidating at first, but it doesn't take too long to get the hang of it.
Along with the advice you'll get about getting the RS Ireland book, you could also do a search on TripAdvisor's Ireland board -- use teenager and itinerary as search words. Also, read some trip reports to see what appeals to you.
