lodging in London with 18 year old daughter

My sister and I are taking my 18 year old daughter to England, Ireland and Wales after graduation in June. We will be staying 5 nights in London. I've stayed in London with a friend a couple of times and love Chelsea and Kensington. My daughter is interested in fashion and shopping (of course) and trendy shops and boutiques. We'd like to stay in a smaller neighborhood, relatively near shops and cafes; Chelsea, Notting Hill and Brompton Rd...Any ideas on smaller hotels that would accomodate the three of us in one room?

We have stayed in London 4 times, the last two we have stayed at the Cherry Court Hotel mentioned in Rick's book. It is a very tight room, but we liked the safety, cleanliness, friendliness, and convenience. It is a half block from Victoria Station which has buses and trains and the subway all there. The hotel gives you a basket in lieu of full breakfast. It always includes 3 pieces of fruit each, as well as a juice packet, cookies, granola bar and something else. We would put these in our backpacks, head out and eat them as we traveled. Across the street is the historic St. George's Pub with GREAT food. We were there for 4 days last month and ate there 4 times. You can email the hotel to ask for rates, but they are the lowest you can get en suite. There is no elevator. There are several other small hotels near there. Nancy

Hi Kate, I would try to get a hotel in the Sloane Square area. Kings Road and all the trendy shops and boutiques are in that area. The Sloane Square Hotel is nice~~ [email protected]~~
www.sloanesquarehotel.co.uk~~and it's a two minute walk to the Sloane Square Tube station. Other hotels in the area are The Sloane, Draycott Hotel and The Willett Hotel.

Thanks for the help! I will check both of these hotels out. This trip will be great fun and a wonderful experience for the three of us.

Hi,

I used to work in the area around Oxford Circus/Tottenham Court Road/Goodge Street, it is a lovely are with shops and cafes. But hotels can be pricey. I usually use a site like Venere.com or Booking.com here in Europe where I can check user reviews of people who've stayed there. The rates on Venere are almost always the lowest.

My sister and I were considering the Sumner Hotel, north of Oxford Street. While you won't be in those neighborhoods, you would be near Oxford Street and any of the nicer shops going toward Regents Park. It seem highly rated but not extraordinarly expensive.

I'll second the recommendation on the Cherry Court Hotel...small and basic but very clean and very inexpensive. Another good Victoria Station area option I can personally recommend is Blades Hotel...a little bit higher on price but still very clean and reasonably priced, more room, breakfast is included, and the manager (recall his name to be Kevin) is hilarious. If I had to choose between these two, I would select the Cherry Court. You just can't beat the price.

If she is into 'trendy', why not check out the Covent Garden and Camden Market areas. Picadilly also makes a nice base. Our favorite has always been Victoria as our base because it is so easy to get to all the other places!
