My son, myself and his two daughters, age 18 & 16 will be in London for 4 days, May 24th thru the 28th. We are looking for suggestions in the area of lodging for the four of us.
What area would that be?
Patricia, I will be traveling to London May 26th to May 31st with my 16 year old son. We are staying at Premier Inn County Hall, which was highly recommended from this website and tripadvisor. They do have "family rooms" that would accommodate your family. It is across the Thames from Big Ben and right next to the London Eye. I might be more helpful to know what your budget is.
Patricia - Here are a couple of web site for you.
londonhometohome.com & smoothhound.co.uk.
We always stay (approaching 30 days) in the Victoria Station area. Very convenient via Tube from airport, and to the core city, and a little more reasonable. Try Winchester hotel and Lime Tree - a bit more expensive.
Patricia, If I only had four days I'd stay at The Premier Travel Inn County Hall as already suggested, and reserve a family room. From there you can walk to many tourist sights. It's a great location. I've stayed there many times and will probably do so again this year.
Depending on your bedget, consider the Victoria Thistle (may be called The Grosovener). It is right IN Victoria Station. Very nice and VERY convient. We have stayed there numerous times.
Check TripAdvisor....it is very reliable and gives you recent feedback from travelers AND Photos.....
We found base2stay near Earl's Court in the Knightsbridge area to be ideal...modern, a kitchen, roomie bathrooms, comfy beds and very quiet!!
Consider Garden COurt hotel in RS guidebk. includes brfast for a great rate and walk to many of Londons best. I would stay there again.
We were really impressed with Base2Stay in Earl's Court. Each room has a mini-kitchen with a sink, a fridge and a microwave. It's super close to the tube too and the prices are very reasonable.
Tripadvisor.com is the best resource I've found for hotel ratings on the net.
We stayed near Victoria station when in London and liked the convenience of being so close to a major transportation hub. In many trips since our experience has been the same; proximity to train, bus, metro/tube/subway and the ease it offers to travel around a major city is the guiding criterion for us. We spend very little time in our hotel room wherever we are, and the cheaper rooms aren't always in the areas with the most sights anyway.
The reason we chose Gloucester Road tube station over Victoria Station, was the ability to catch the Picadilly Line, the Circle Line, or the District Line. Mostly we used the Picadilly Line but we took a lot of busses as well. We enjoyed the London Bus very much, and there was excellent service on the road on the south side of Hyde Park and also from South Kensington area.
Patricia, I'm a Victoria Station area fan as well. My preference for hotel is the Luna & Simone about a 10-15 walk from the Station; third stay coming up in April. #24 bus (24/7) right in front of hotel to take you to most of the sights in London; go up top if not too crowded and try to grab the front seat. Have done the Lime Tree Hotel, prefer the L&S for the more pleasant and helpful one-family owners and staff, the price, the cleanliness and the breakfast. They do have at least one family room for 4.
