Lodging is very tight in August due to peak season and Military tattoo in Edinburgh. Looking for budget/economy lodging other than of Ricks suggestions, travelodge and accor hotels.Farm stays or sim OK. Thanks

If you haven't booked Edinburgh lodging, do it ASAP!! There is no such thing as budget/economy lodging in Edinburgh in August and many places are probably booked solid by now.
You can find less expensive places if you book further out from the center of town and take the bus in to city centre. But in the country, you aren't likely to have convenient public transportation and parking anywhere near the city centre is a nightmare, especially for the Tattoo.
I would try to see if any of the hotels or B&B's (lots on Minto St) have space available as they are on bus routes and reasonably close to the centre.

We have a place we are going in Edinburgh in June. I don't think a lot of people know about her place. It was once the home of an author I like, which was how I found the place - anyway, it's worth a try to see if she is booked up then or not: www.fourteen.eglintoncrescent@blueyonder.co.uk - the owner is Aileen Reeves - Julie in Chicago - I believe she said that it is a 10 min. walk to the city center
