Hi there, not sure if you are aware but the train station in Cambridge is a fair hike from the actual centre of town. I grew up in Cambridge so have a pretty good knowledge of the city. There is or rather used to be a good bus system in and out of town. Also, there really isnt anything to see or do around the train station, its just houses and some industrial stuff [if my memory serves me well!]
Apart from that, enjoy your stay, go punting and climb Great St. Marys Church Tower for a great view of the city [its the big church just off the market square]

Just don't try to do punting while carrying a camera. True story, when I was in Cambridge many years ago a Japanese tourist was both punting and using a video camera at the same time. The student who was steering our punt during our tour pointed out and said "That mate is going in the water." About five seconds later the pole you use to steer the punt hit the bottom of the river and he did this very nice back flip into the water.
