For our trip to the UK we are considering doing a day-trip to York on our way south to London (we have a hotel in Edinburgh). We didn't see it in our Rick Steve guide, but does the York train station have lockers for luggage storage, or any places to store luggage?
According to the National Rail site, there are left luggage facilities at the York train station.
Hello Robert. When I was at York (in the year 2003) a baggage room was at the train station. No lockers. Bags could be put in that room. Each bag was scanned. (The attendant looked for a bomb in a bag).
Leave the bags at "left luggage" at the station. You'll be fine. But, check to make sure they will be open when you return. The York station is a very easy walk from the center of town. Go out the front doors, turn left, and you're there in a few minutes. Grab a map of central York to guide you getting back. Better yet, grab a cab. (Hard to find during the evening rush.) The part of York you will be in can be very confusing for visitors trying to find their way around.
