Local Flavor

Will be traveling to London/ Great Britain next month. While in London will be staying in the Bloomsbury area, The George B&B. Would like to know of any traditional pubs in the area with character and what types of local flavor beers I should try. Thanks for any recommendations and suggestions.

I was going to mention The Lamb. It should have at least 5 draught bitters, maybe including guest beers from different breweries. If you drink them in half pints then you could try all of them, and what I would do is start with the lowest percentage in alcohol and work up...

The Lamb on Lambs Conduit Street is a Victorian pub which still has the glass screens at the bar.

Museum Tavern, 49 Great Russell St., Bloomsbury. Right across the street from the British Museum. Great pub food also. It has existed since the early 1700's as a pub, remodeled about 1850, has traditional Victorian decor; Sir Arthur Conan Doyle drank here. http://www.taylor-walker.co.uk/pub/museum-tavern-bloomsbury/c0747/ Here is a guide to their real ales. Click on each tap for a description of the ale and its flavor: http://www.taylor-walker.co.uk/drink/real-ales/ I usually stay in Bloomsbury when I am in London, and have had many meals and drinks here. I love this place, and usually drink the Abbot Ale, Greene King 5.0%.

If you walk up north from Bloomsbury as far as Euston station, the two Classical lodges on either side of the bus entrance from Euston Rd (the only remnants of the much-missed 19th century Euston station, railfans) have recently been turned into pubs specialising in traditional drinks. On the left, the Euston Tap, for beer, and on the right, the Cider Tap, probably now the single best place in London for (alcoholic) cider.

Oh. My. God. Seriously, do not go into the Cider Tap and ask for Bulmers. It's like going into a US microbrew pub and asking if they have any Miller Lite.
