Liverpool - Albert Docks or City Centre?

Hi, I am staying in Liverpool for 2 nights in April and I am debating which area to stay in. I am considering the Premier Inn Liverpool City Centre, the Premier Inn Liverpool Albert Docks, and the Days Inn Liverpool. The main hold up in picking a location is I would like to be close to the site-seeing areas, which I would get at the Albert Docks, but I am leaving on 7:57am train from Lime Street Station, and have read that is a 2 mile walk from the docks to the station. The 2 mile distance isn't a problem it's just making sure I get to the station in time to catch my train. Any opinions on location or hotel would be most helpful. Thank you,
Laura

We stayed at the Crown Plaza Liverpool, near the Liver building on the docks. We enjoyed the hotel. I don't usually stay in such a nice hotel when in Europe, but we were not really sight seeing on this occasion. While we did walk a lot, taxis in Liverpool are very inexpensive compared to Boston, London, Paris, etc. I enjoyed being down by the docks as i found it an easy walk up the hill to the Georgian section, Matthews Street, etc. but allowed for quick visits to the museums when time afforded. The bus system also works well. I would recommend staying at the docks and taking a taxi to the train station or, if you prefer, any sight at the top of the hill. . This would be the best use of you time, IMO. We were doing limited sight-seeing on our visit, but were all over the city. It's a lovely city with much to see and do. W.
