I am staying one night in Leeds on my way to Scotland. Is there anything we should do/see/places to eat that we shouldn't miss before moving on?
Leeds is not considered that scenic to people in Yorkshire. Can you switch to something like York.
Leeds is where I first had a "table for two' dinner with the lady who is now my wife. Still wouldnt recommend it above York or.......
Ever since Richard Whitely died there is now Nothing to see in Leeds. Harrogate is just down the road and has lots.
I quite like Leeds. But then I like most of the northern industrial towns and cities! Like them Leeds suffered from loss of industries and "modernisation" in the 1960s and 70s but still has some fine Victorian public buildings in the centre. It is very proud of its city centre shopping facilities and the many cafes, bars and restaurants ......... It is some time since I visited but we used to eat good traditional food in pubs. Yorkshire Pudding with onion gravy mmmmmmmm! It should eaten on its own before the meat course. The story is that this was done so that you would eat less (more expensive) meat. Much like the role of the pasta course in Italy. Edit - it is the first place I saw that had flower beds planted on the top of bus shelters!
Brian - I agree Leeds is not a tourist destination or a pretty place but maybe it can be interesting to visit other/normal places? There was (to some extent still is) rivalry in terms of civic pride between the northern towns and cities so don't expect them to praise each other. Manchester v Liverpool is a good example!
Thank you all for your feedback. I will use Leed as a hotel stay only as I move on to other spots. Thanks!
