Layover in Reykjavik

We will have a 3 hour layover in Reyjavik. I was wondering if there is anything to see or do at the airport. We will be arriving at 6:45 AM. Thanks!!

Unfortunately there is nothing to do in the Keflavik Airport. The city Reykjavik is about 45 km away. If you had longer layover I would recommend Blue Lagoon but three hours is not enough. Bring a book or sleep.

Not diddley squat to do at the airport but at least you can walk around and get the old blood flowing. No time to leave the airport and do anything. Sorry. It is a nice airport all in all but the shops, such as they are, will probably be closed except around the food court. FYI the food court accepts just about any currency you reasonably can expect to be carrying and they have that day's conversion rates at hand. Wonderful and helpful ground staff FYI.

Brendon, I would strongly recomend that if at all possible you change your schedule to allow a couple of days in Iceland. Iceland Air will allow this with little or no additional air cost. We did this: Arr. 6:45 AM, Fly-bus to blue lagoon for a few relaxing hours, then same bus ticket to Hotel Baldursbra, dropped bags and spent the rest of the day around Reykjavik. Next day: Golden Circle express bus tour with our own picnic lunch, dinner back in town. Next day, fly-bus back to airport. Iceland is a truly unique and amazing place and was the highlight of our 3 week Scandanavian trip.

Brendon, Sorry for forgeting this in my first post. If you can't add days in Iceland I would use my 3 hours to take a taxi in to Keflavik. You will see some of Iceland's stark beauty and the driver can suggest things to do, or check out virtualtourist.com. The last thing I would do after an overnight flight would be to extend my jet lag by sitting in a boring airport. Get moving on the local schedule and you will feel much better.

Considering that you would have to go back through security if you leave the airport, even if you were off the plane and outside in 30 minutes, and even if the town was right there instead of a distance away, you would still have virtually NO time to see anything. Don't take the chance of missing your ongoing flight.
