Late June Olympic Events or Practices

My husband and I will be in London from the 21-25th. Does anyone know of any practices or trials that you can get tickets to? Is anything even scheduled? I have been on the Olympic sites, but they are a little hard to find information out about this. Maybe there is nothing going on until everything really starts, but I thought there might be some football matches or something. Thanks!

I can't give you any specifics, but the best place to find this kind of info is go to one of the individual sporting federations website for more info. For example if you wanted to see time trials for swimming head to the FINA site, for practice info for the US men/women soccer team head to the US Soccer site etc.

There are practice events going on, but they are mostly happening quite soon. (I'm going to the diving preparation session in a fortnight.) The latest event I can find is the 8th May. It's probably worth keeping an eye on http://www.ticketmaster.co.uk/londonpreparesseries , though, in case more dates are announced closer to the time - you might get lucky!

I used to be a volunteer at the Olympic Training Center here in San Diego. When athletes arrive at the Olympics they have already participated in the trials and qualified and are now considered Olympians. The trials will have already been held in the countries that will be sending athletes, each country has their own qualifing trials, or they may participate in a qualifing tournament, these are held to make the Olympic team or to qualify for the Olympics. For example there were trials held in Houston a week or two ago for Olympic hopefuls trying to make the marathon team. And the U.S. womens soccer team qualified at a tournament in Vancouver the last weekend in January. Some athletes will arrive and take part in the Opening Ceremonies then immeditately depart to a training location while they are waiting for their event to take place, their event might not be till the second week of the games, they'll travel to an out of the way place to practice, away from distractions so they can focus, afterall they have trained, practiced, sacrificed and waited years for this one moment that might last a day, an hour or a minute, normally these aren't open to the public. .

Hi: Most of the venue tests took place in late 2011. Selection for Great Britain's teams appear to be taking place now. They might still be taking place when you visit the UK. In the USA the diving team won't be selected until the last week of June so maybe this will be paralleled in the UK. Here is a web site that provides information about pre-Olympics venue tests and team selections: http://www.the2012londonolympics.com/forum/layout-venues-sports-london-2012-olympics/
