Last minute packing - question.

Heading off for a bike trip in Western England. Bath, Wells, etc. Mostly packed, but just can't make up my mind if I should add one pair of shorts for the afternoon/evenings. Temps so far look to be high of 65. If you've traveled this part of England, this time of year....should I bother? I have all the rest of my stuff laid out, ready to go, just unsure if I really need shorts mid-Sept in this region. Let me add that I will NOT wear zip off pants.

I don't think you'll need the shorts. At most take a pair of capri's that could do double duty. Or maybe a pair of the "zip off" type pants that you can convert to shorts if needed. Be ready to layer (short sleeve T, long sleeve button-up shirt over that, maybe a fleece vest) as mornings and evenings can be very cool even in summer.

Slip in a light weight swinsuit. Some of the places you might stay in might have an indoor pool or one nearby. On our last trip to England we ended up staying in room in the carriage house that was on an Estate. They had a pool available to guests and hot tubs, too. Or you might be near a Sports Center. You might like a soak or swim after a long chilly bike ride.

You know, if you have room for them take them. Only you know how much you'll be comfortable packing around. It seems a lot of my trips to England are at this time of the year, one year ago today in fact. Also remember both of the cities you mentioned have Marks & Spencer stores.

I take the zip off pants. It was only this summer in July that I actually consistently took off the legs. I think that the advice for capri's or convertible pants is excellent. You are taking a good rain jacket, right? ; ) Pam
