Last minute Ireland

I've read sooo much about not being in Dublin for St. Patrick's Day. However, I'm living in London for a year and Ireland is calling me this weekend. I've looked at a lot of train/plane options. Looks like Aer Lingus is the cheapest. I could fly really early Saturday morning, get in a full day, then fly home late Sunday night. Or I could leave mid afternoon on Friday (just kind of a waste of a night of lodging) Have to be back for work on Monday morning and can't go for proper St. Patrick's Day during the week. Questions:
- I'm assuming lodging will be tough, last minute and on a busy weekend. Any suggestions?
- I understand I should leave Dublin for the weekend. Frankly my ideal Saturday would be sitting in a pub with great Irish music in a small town. I'd personally rather spend my time in a small town anyhow. Where can I go without a car? I could possibly get one in Dublin but would like to avoid it if possible. I realize trains are not extensive in Ireland, but what are my options out of Dublin?
- If I stay in Dublin . . is there anything. . anything that people would suggest? Proper pubs, etc that would not be filled with obnoxiousness (to a degree)?

Thanks! Can't wait for my first trip over there. Whenever it is.

Get a train out of Dublin (Heuston station) http://www.irishrail.ie/home/ to Galway - 2 1/2 hours..More compact town then Dublin..you are on the west coast and there are plenty of restaurants and music pubs within a few blocks of centrally located hotels.

Jury's in Galway is a very central location.

After Belfast..Galway is my favourite town in Ireland.

Consider taking Patton Flyer bus that departs on the hour from Dublin Airport Area 4 and arrives in Dun Laoghaire in 33 min * 01/284-9619 * http://www.thepattonflyer.ie

If you want to sleep in Dun Laoghaire try the Windsor Lodge owned by friendly Mary O’Farrell * 3 Islington Avenue, Sandycove, Dun Laoghaire, Co. Dublin, Ireland * +353 (0)1 284-6952 & +353 (0)86 844-6646 for mobile * emailto:winlodge@eircom.net * http://www.windsorlodge.ie/ *

Last summer we wondered what St Pat's Day would be like at the Eagle House Pub * 18 Glasthule Road * http://www.eagleshouse.ie/ * Maybe you can find out for us.

Slainte!
