I've read sooo much about not being in Dublin for St. Patrick's Day. However, I'm living in London for a year and Ireland is calling me this weekend. I've looked at a lot of train/plane options. Looks like Aer Lingus is the cheapest. I could fly really early Saturday morning, get in a full day, then fly home late Sunday night. Or I could leave mid afternoon on Friday (just kind of a waste of a night of lodging) Have to be back for work on Monday morning and can't go for proper St. Patrick's Day during the week. Questions:
- I'm assuming lodging will be tough, last minute and on a busy weekend. Any suggestions?
- I understand I should leave Dublin for the weekend. Frankly my ideal Saturday would be sitting in a pub with great Irish music in a small town. I'd personally rather spend my time in a small town anyhow. Where can I go without a car? I could possibly get one in Dublin but would like to avoid it if possible. I realize trains are not extensive in Ireland, but what are my options out of Dublin?
- If I stay in Dublin . . is there anything. . anything that people would suggest? Proper pubs, etc that would not be filled with obnoxiousness (to a degree)?
Thanks! Can't wait for my first trip over there. Whenever it is.
