hello again.
we have the first 10 days of our 14 day ireland trip mapped and booked. that leaves 4 days ; june4,5,6 &7 open . we spend 3 days - june 1,2 &3 in dingle and then on to? we were thinking connemara (stay in westport?), galway, shannon. we have june 4,5,6 and 7. we fly out of shannon the morning of june 8th any suggestions for how to plan those last four days?
It's 181 miles, 5 hours driving time from Dingle to Westport. Why not drive there on June 4, then slowly work your way back to Shannon on June 8?......... Some good spots to stop are Delphi, Lough Nafooey, Connemara area, Clifden, Roseveal to take the ferry to Inishmore (Aran Islands), Galway if you want to shop or enjoy cities, the Burren, Quin Abbey. There's other spots if you check a map. I would change hotels each night so you can maximize your sight-seeing and book your stops ahead so you don't have to stop until 6:30 or so........ Maybe 1. Westport, 2. Clifden or Roundstone , 3. Kinvara, 4. Ennis or Bunratty would work for you........We avoid touristy stuff like the plague but we actually enjoyed the banquet at Bunratty Castle our last night in Ireland.
thanks cybthia; that was our original idea. i started getting 'cold feet' after reading a number of posts that suggested that this particular drive might be a bit arduous. ive driven in europe before but never on the left with a right side wheel.
i was afraid the 5 hour drive might bcome 8 or 9.
We didn't find driving in Ireland too challenging-- once you get over the right/left thing, it's pretty easy going. You just follow signs for the next town (directions are almost pointless as roads are seldom marked)-- and take your time.
