In the middle of March I'll be going to England with a group of student and adult travelers, and one option is a day walk through "Lark Rise to Candleford" Country in North Oxfordshire, specifically the area from Juniper Hilll to Buckingham. I would appreciate recommendations: is this worth a day on a 1-week trip? How is the terrain? We are interested in seeing the countryside, but a bit worried about muddy slopes in the Costwolds. Would this be a good alternative, a bit closer to London? Thanks.
Well there's another way to get people into the countryside. My wife watches that insipid program, I had no idea it had been exported. I've never heard of Juniper Hill, and Buckingham is the county seat of Buckinghamshire. I would expect anywhere in England to be muddy in March.
Have you seen the Flora Thompson website at www.florathompson.co.uk/? It is all about Juniper Hill and Cottisford. Note that this is not the place where the television programme was made. I understand that that was built especially for filming and is somewhere near Bath.
Hey, we love that show Nigel! ;-)
Mmmmm, I have to agree with Nigel. Major yawner of a show. Mom loves it though. Anyway, you didn't ask for our opinion of the show. I love that area of England and I think it would be worth it to do that part of the trip; but as Nigel said it is rainy and muddy in most of England in March.
