has anyone landed in the last week or few days at heathrow? are there still 2 hours waits to get through passport controls??
You might want to check out TripAdvisor's London Forum. I've seen several threads and seen this mentioned in other threads, too. It SEEMS this problem has been resolved- but concerns still continue. TripAdvisor has a decent search function. Just go to the London forum and search with in that forum for something like "immigration wait Heathrow" or "customs time Heathrow".
Landed there a couple of weeks ago and there were no queues at all. I have a UK passport and my travelling buddy is American. We were both at the baggage carousel before the bags!
I don't believe it has been resolved, but the length of the queue does seem to vary drastically depending on the time and terminal. I suspect much of it is luck of the draw. adamhornets on the London Tripadvisor forum reported about a 90 minute queue for non-EU in T5 yesterday morning. There is also a very long thread on flyertalk in the BA forum on this. Good Luck. I'll be going through immigration in T1 on Thursday evening and will report back.
Went through it yesterday & no problems........ 15 to 20 minute wait.
Immigration is always a crap shoot where ever. My longest wait was 3 hours in a queue at LAX. London City Airport probably has best record in lack of queues for all London airports but is a bit of a minority entry point.
I started a similar topic a few weeks ago but coming into Heathrow it was literally a minute wait to talk to an agent and a pleasant 2 minute conversation about our plans and that was it. This was BA terminal 5 on a Friday afternoon. Waited 5 maybe 10 minutes at Dublin to talk to an agent but then was stamped through without delay.
I'll be going through Heathrow again coming back from Ireland in a couple of days on a Sunday evening on BMI so probably a different terminal. If it's drastically different I'll report back.
There is no immigration travelling into the UK from the Republic of Ireland. You go straight to baggage claim, in the domestic part of the airport (if separated such as Heathrow T1).
In London last 11 days. Yes, several hour delays at passport control occur with worker protests about pension reforms take place. Museums are also affected with many galleries closed off.Tube and bus routes on weekends are affected by infrastructure work. Best to search internet for one day strikes and transportation closures, Most bridges will close the Sunday in June when Queen reviews the Thames Jubilee regatta.
I landed at T1 just before 10pm on Thursday night. I was though immigration in about 15 minutes, but there aren't a lot of planes that come in at that time of night.
We landed at Heathrow on May 9 - about 5 minutes in line. We were told they had brought in extra people to help. Absolutely no problem for us.
Went through last week and absolutely no problem. Bags were waiting for us. This was terminal 3. Heard later that the long delay issue made it to the house of parliament and amazingly things improved over night. They are very sensitive to bad press with the Olympics on the horizon.
Arrived at Heathrow May 11th mid afternoon - took 2 hrs to get through immigration. We were among first off flight and didn't check bags. There really is no way to predict time at immigration at Heathrow. Fortunately, we had booked Eurostar to Paris for the next day so the wait was just a nuisance and didn't interfere with our travel plans.
Given how unpredictable it is, if you are traveling on via train ( I.e. Eurostar) schedule it for next day!
