Lambeth area apartments...Prince William's wedding

We are going to London in May. I've found a great apartment in the Lambeth area, but Rick never mentions that area. Is there something wrong with it?? Also, I groaned when I heard about Prince William's wedding.. the news mention possible May wedding in Westminster... please, let it not be so!!! It would be so crowded. Christine

There actually wasn't a month mentioned....they said a spring or early summer wedding. I sure wouldn't worry about it.

Even if the wedding occurs in London at Wesminster while you are there, you could plan a day trip on the day of the wedding. The crowds won't be extreme on any other day. Or visit Windsor or Greenwich or Kew Gardens to avoid the crowds. There is some speculation about the wedding occuring at Windsor (as did his uncle's and father's second). Personally, I think they will wait until late August or September. Or rush things and go for early April. Lots of other events in May, June and July that would "clash" with plans. Wouldn't it be cool for them to plan it at Balmoral, in Scotland? Wills could fly them off to their honeymoon in a helicopter and they could tryst on one of the remote islands (lol).

Lambeth is not particularly a tourist area and the RS book only covers a few neighbourhoods in London. He does in fact mention some places in this Borough. For example, the London Eye and Premier Inn County Hall are both in the South Bank area of the Borough of Lambeth. There are some areas in Lambeth that are a bit rough around the edges; there are also some very high-end flats, particularly along the river. Not all the areas of Lambeth would appeal to a tourist. Even if you are there during the wedding, I doubt that you will notice much impact unless you are specifically in the vicinity of the wedding.

Lambeth is not so much an area as a borough. Its quite large and is composed of many parts, a few top notch. Where in Lambeth?

It is on Old PAradise Street near Lambeth High Street. It says that the #3 bus from the corner is 5 minutes to the Houses of Parliament, Big Ben and Westminster Abbey. To be honest, it sure looks like it wouldn't be a hard walk on the map. Christine

I've had a good look on Google Earth. The only hotel I see is a Novotel next to the train line. That's an elevated line on its final approach to Waterloo so it will be very busy all the time. Rail traffic will be slow so although you will hear rumbling it shouldn't be too bad. Christine, I don't do south of the river so can't directly speak of the neighbourhood but it looks ok to me. You're just over the Lambeth Bridge from the Victoria area of Westminster and most Novotels are usually in acceptable areas. You're just a couple of streets from Lambeth Walk - like in the song...... enjoy
