Hi, aside from the Keswick area, what other places would make a good homebase for a two-day stay in the Lake District? Thanks.
Hi Annie, Is that Hayward Wisconsin? I spent a summer there working many, many years ago! I stayed slightly outside the Lake District near Penrith. It was a farm B&B right on the edge of the Fells and it was wonderful. I was able to get over t the Lake District, but also ended up at Hadrian's Wall as well before heading north to Melrose in Scotland. Pam
I would say that the Ambleside/Windermere area is the nicest for a homebase. The villages in this area are very charming and there are lots of B&Bs scattered all over. It is an easy drive up to Keswick, a not so charming town.
We have stayed twice in Keswick which was great for hiking and dining but a really appealing town is Grassmere.
