Which would be a better half day trip from Cork, Kinsale or Cobh? for a 60, 35 and 6 yr old, we will there in 2 weeks.
I enjoyed Kinsale. Of course there is Kinsale Crystal and Kinsale silver for earrings. It is a small town and easy to walk around. I'd choose Kinsale.
Cobh has a wonderful museum called The Queenstown Story which is all about Cobh's history as a sailing port (including last port of call for the Titanic). The displays give a real sense of what it was like to cross the Atlantic in a famine ship. Cobh's cathedral is a don't-miss, as well.
Keith, Actually you can't go wrong with either one. It is a win-win situation. Cobh may have a few more places to visit but Kinsale is nice also.
Actually, Kinsale & Cobh are so close together you should just pencil in a whole day - travel down from Cork to Cobh and then cross ferry toward Kisale and then back up again to Cork. It can be done. Have fun!
Kinsale is an interesting place. Bulman's or the Spinaker are nice for meals. We stayed at Acton's and it was ok, but somewhat run down. Good crack in the pubs, a touristy shop in the middle of town - can't recall the name - had the best prices for shirts hats etc, to bring home. Go to the old fort and take the tour. Wear comfortable shoes. The castle is not a big deal but has an interesting past. Kinsale ale isn;t have bad. There's a pub on the back street that is staffed with kids from the US for some reason. All and all either is a nice spot
