Stayed in Kinsale in 2008 at the Old Ban House (it was OK but not great). Taking our two sons to Ireland (age 31 and 28) and looking for a better place to stay in Kinsale. Suggestions?
We liked the Old Presbytery located near the castle. Good parking in the back walled area.
I stayed at Friar's Lodge with a RS tour group. http://friars-lodge.com/ Great breakfast and staff.
If it's a true "hotel" you want, try the Carlton. We stayed there in 2007 right after it opened and it was great. Watch for deals - we paid far less than our travelling companions who didn't follow our alert to a special the Carlton was running.
John, I'd also recommend The Friar's Lodge (I was also there with a RS tour group). Cheers!
We stayed at the OldeBakery and liked it very much.B&B host was was friendly and very helpful. Also J.Edwards Restaurant was outstanding. Its in Steves book and B&B host suggested it.
We Stayed at the Carlton in November.... It was nice and there is a shuttle that takes you into town at night and will pick you up as well. That being said, if we were to go back again, we would probably do a B&B... there are some really nice ones near Charles Fort where the views are magnificant. We traveled Ireland for 2 and one half weeks going from Dublin to cong with stops in Kinsale, Kilarney and mayo and Kinsale was our favorite.
Last summer I stayed at the Cloisters B&B. The owners were very, very sweet. They were so helpful and had many great suggestions for sites and restaurants. The breakfast was great, too.
Another vote for the comfortable Old Presbytery where we enjoyed staying last May. A very short walk to restaurants and fun pubs in the evenings.
