Kew Gardens/Richmond Side Trip?

Hello again. I'm in the planning stages of our end-of-August trip to London. We plan to take The Tube to Kew Gardens from Knightsbridge flat we're renting. Wondered if Kew was an all-day event or not. Someone suggested we return via Richmond. It looks good from the brochures, but wanted to get a reality check. Is it worth a stop, perhaps for early dinner on the way back? I can't thank y'all enough for the thoughtful, HELPFUL posts on other questions I've asked thus far.

Don't miss walking in the treetops... For most folk half a day is pretty good, but don't forget it is a distance from central London...

Kew can be up to a full day- just depends on how much you are into gardens, plants and greenery. As stated above, it is a longish ride out of London, so not worth it just for an hour or so. Richmond also could be stretched easily up to a full day. There is a pleasant green, a few interesting shopping streets, interesting buildings, and a lengthy walkway alonside the Thames. interesting cafes, restaurants, hotels for lunch and dinner. Plus the huge Richmond Park, with woods, large open spaces and a few deer Especially from Kew you can take a boat back to London (a little far from Richmond). If you dont want to go to Richmond; an easier alternative from Kew is "Strand on the Green". a riverside village, just over the bridge from Kew, with a broad riverside walk and two or three renowned and very atmospheric pubs. (That would be my preferred after Kew jaunt)

We spent half a day at Kew and it was absolutely enough time.

I'll admit we haven't been there in several years. But we go to Kew on most Summer visits to London because we're avid gardeners. Just across the street is a lovely bakery/teashop The Maids of Honour http://www.theoriginalmaidsofhonour.co.uk/ Their specialty is a creamy-topped pastry of the same name.

I spent an entire day at Kew, and had a lovely tea. We're very plant obsessed, and took hundreds of pictures.

After the day in Kew Gardens, get the tube down to Richmond for dinner.
