My wife and I are planning on staying at the Premier Inn in the Kensington section of London next summer. Is this a good neigborhood and convenient to tourist sites?
Might I suggest you buy a copy of Rick's book on London. You'll find it very informative. In answer to your questions Kensington is a very nice area and yes you will be close to tourist sites.
Kensington is a very nice area of London. We stayed there twice, once three years ago and again earlier this month. A very nice walkable area, with no crowds like there are around Victoria Station. There are a lot of tourists as there are a lot of hotels, but other than that, the pubs are nice and there is everything else you'd want to find, museums, transportation, Kensington Gardens, etc. When we return to London someday we may well stay there again as it seems like our home in London now.
i stayed at the Base2stay in same area and loved the area, close to two tube stations, Gloucester and Earls Court, and two major museums , Victoria and Albert and the Natural History Museum, and two grocery stores, forgot their names. I was solo and felt safe walking the area day and night.
We have stayed in the Kensington area many times and really like it there a lot. As has been said, it's close to tube stations and museums, plus shopping.
Another report on happy memories of staying in Kensington. Great pubs, great museums, nice neighborhoody feel... super. Love it. Last time we were in London we stayed in Regent's Park, and the next time we go, I am voting for Kensngton.
Kensington is a lovely neighborhood. I also like Premier Inns. This spring we stayed at the one in Southwark and have also stayed at County Hall. I think I actually like Southwark the better of these two because of the neighborhood quality about it. County Hall, tho, is nearer to tourist sites. Big Ben, the London Eye and Trafalgar Sq. just a short walk up the street.
