I'm interested in taking in a sheep dog demonstration while in Ireland. I've found mention of the Kells Sheep Centre on the Ring of Kerry and the Kissane Sheep Farm in the same area. What I don't know if the HOURS OF OPERATION or DAYS OF OPERATION that the Kells Sheep Farm is open. Anyone know? Maybe an email address where I can contact them? I have a phone number but have so far avoided that. Also, anyone know of OTHER sheep dog demonstrations in SW Ireland that they have experience with? I asked this question once before and got a couple leads, but now I really need more specific information. Thank you!
You can contact Kells Sheep Centre at 011-353-87 260 4566 for days that they are open and hours.
Thanks, Robin. I'm hoping to find an email address or other information before I start the phone call phase of my planning. Do you know WHERE the Kells Sheep Centre is? I haven't even been able to find THAT. :) Thanks.
Might this site help? http://www.caitins.com/sheep_dog_trials.html
It's not actually the centre, but there is an email address at the bottom to help get you started.....
Kells Sheep Centre is in Kells, Co.Kerry. A call would cost less then $5.00 worth it to find out the correct information you want. Kells is a private farm owned by Brendan Ferris who opens his farm up to visitors, so it would probably be best to make a call.
Kells Sheep Centre is in Kells, Co. Kerry, not Kells, Co. Meath (near Dublin). All I have been able to find for them is a phone number, which is the one you already have. What I read, though, says it runs continuously from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. every day from May through September.
Depending on when you are in Ireland, you MIGHT be able to make the National Sheepdog Trials or the International Sheepdog Trials (http://www.sheepdogchampionships.co.uk/) The Nationals are in July (29th-31st) in County Down and the Internationals are in September (16th-18th) in County Antrim. You can click on the details link for either to get the websites for the specific trial and to find contact information. By contacting the organizers of the trials with questions about demonstrations at times other than the trials, they may be able to hook you up with something.
Thank you all for your help.
Time constraints keep me from doing the national trials, although it's quite tempting!
I will call to verify.
Happy travels!
Our family really enjoyed our visit to the Kissane Sheep farm near Molls Gap on the ROK 2 years ago. We watched a brilliant dog herding sheep, watched sheep shearing and fed some lambs their bottles. Wonderful owners. Great experience. Here is the website and contact info: http://www.adopt-a-sheep.ie/
@Janet: I think that's what we've settled on. Kissane seems to be the right fit for us and on a day that we will be close by.
Thanks to all for your help! ~DrToonz
