Just returned from U.K.

We just returned from a trip to Edinburgh and around England. Some observations.

  1. Jury's Inn Edinburgh- great location but room felt cheap and it seemed they want to dollar and pound you to death. 1.50GBP just to connect to outside telephone line. 11 GBP breakfast. After one day of awful coffee and 40 dollar breakfast for two, we went to the starbucks for much cheaper option. The hotel also converts your bill to dollars (with conversion fee) automatically. We had to make them refund us and redo it.

  2. The Hazelwood in York- Great location, great place, and very nice staff.

  3. Premier Inn London county hall- unbelievable location and very nice room. Easy bus and underground connections. Every bus in London seems to go back to County hall area. One downside was lousy 7.50 GBP breakfast. We did have other option in area (starbucks) but we opted for the traditional british breakfast.

  4. Three Abbey Green in Bath - Great location very "professionally" run by owners.

  5. Car hire from London to Heathrow- I called number for RS reccomended Hotellink and was directed to phone number for "Dot to Dot" company. 35 GBP for two people, good deal I thought and they were right on time. The new # is 08 453 682 368.

Just some logistical issues that come to mind.

Edinburgh is such a small city that it can really pay off to move away from the Royal Mile and catch a bus in or walk. Almost all hotels that I've stayed in on visits to Scotland include breakfast. The hotels I've stayed in near Calton Hill or the the Royal Botanical Gardens have meant that sometimes I need to bus it, but I've been quite happy with my room and breakfast. Too bad your visit was colored by a bad hotel.

Wayne, in my 1st time at London we stayed at Premiere Inn as well. Great location but lousy in ways of breakfast. We opted to travel a bit and found great places that had a proper breakfast.
