Itinerary for 6 days in Ireland

We are landing in Shannon and returning from Dublin. We have 6 days to travel, with a car. We have hotels in Ennis, Killarney and Dublin. What would you suggest for a travel itinerary? Thanks

Since you have already set your hotels, I would suggest looking at a couple of good guide books to see what is within day trip distance from each place. Do your six days include the day you arrive and the day you leave, or do you have six days plus those two days?

It is 6 days. This is our second trip. The highlights of that trip are: Rok, Dingle, Rock of Cashel, Cahir Castle, Cliffs of Mohr. Although we had been "warned" that it takes a long time to drive around because of the roads, of course we now have a more realistic idea. What do you think are the best places to visit around our hotels? What towns do you consider best to visit? Is Cork a must, a/o Wexford, Waterbury? What would be great to see around Killarney?

Thanks,

I'm still not clear on your timing. Are the day you arrive and the day you leave part of the six days? What are your dates? And are you saying that you saw Dingle, Cliffs of Moher, etc., on your previous trip? I don't consider Cork a must, and if you mean Waterford, not Waterbury, there's not much to see there since the crystal factory closed.

The day we arrive and the day we leave are NOT part of our 6 days. The places I have listed are places we visited last time we were in Ireland.

Sorry, I misspoke about Waterbury. Thanks for your response.

Nancy,

I have guide books. Among them Rick Steves, Frommers, Fodors, and a few others. I have 2 great maps. I have lots to "consult". What I am looking for from the helpline, are places you and others have visited that they really enjoyed, inspired them, or they thought any Ireland visitor should see.

Have you seen the website www.irelandexpert.com ? It's focused just on Ireland - lots of personal advice from locals, previous travelers and Pat, the travel professional (states based, I think) who gives personal responses, too. It's been fun to have another source specific to Ireland.

Newgrange is just north of Dublin and a great place to visit before returning to Dublin.

Joycelyn,

It would help if you give us a sense of what you're interested in. For example, why did you choose these particular places to stay? The more info you can give us, the more helpful we can be.

My immediate list of things to see would include some of what you have already seen. In the Ennis area, Bunratty Castle, the Burren, maybe Galway, Adare. In the Killarney area, Kenmare, the National Park. In the Dublin area, Newgrange, the Wicklow Mountains, and Glendalough. In Dublin, Kilmainham Gaol, Grafton St., Temple Bar, Trinity College.
