It's not easy to offer an opinion about whether you have too much or too little time in Scotland since we don't know what you plan to do with the time you have. Can you give us an idea of what kinds of activities you like or what you would like to see? Also, I'm not sure how you plan to drive from Oban in Scotland to Cork in Ireland. If you are thinking of taking a rental car from the UK to Ireland, be aware that even if the UK rental agency allows it, you will face stiff charges for picking up in one country and dropping off in another.

Hi Nancy -I meant flying from Galway to Dublin. We will be driving, and we are active. Will stop, love to walk the towns, stop for lunch, sightsee, but do not need to stop in every church or castle. Mostly take in the important sights, andthen lots of walking and a hike or two. Thank you.

That doesn't answer how you plan to drive from Scotland to Ireland (Galway is in Ireland, too). Where does Galway fit into your itinerary? Galway to Dublin is only a three hour drive. I'm not sure that flying would save any time, given security restraints.

Do you mean fly from Glasgow to Dublin? That would make sense. This itinerary might work for you, but it's too fast for me. You only have one full day in Edinburgh, which is my favorite city in Europe. I would skip St. Andrews and stay in Edinburgh another day. I do like St. Andrews though. I would skip Oban and add another day to Skye, which I just love. Oban is a nice town, but nothing special unless you are using it as a jumping off point to visit the islands. Another idea is to stop at Inverness on the way to Skye.

It looks to me like you're chasing dots on a map. St Andrews is a specialty town for the links and the universtiy, otherwise it's not much. Oban is nothing but a lunch stop if you're starving. You're missing too much of the good stuff. I'd probably take the St Andrews and Oban time and go to Inverness from Edinburgh, thence down the Caledonian and lochs to whatever that little town is at the middle of Loch Oich (Invergarry ?) to make the turn to Skye. After Skye, I'd come back down the same road to Loch Oich and continue along the canal and lochs to Ft William. After that, make a beeline to Glasgow (if that's the airplane patch). If you spent the night in Inverness (maybe two) and Ft William (one) you'd only be driving a couple or three hours per day.

Hello-all! Thank you for the great advice-based on it all, yes, another night in Edinburgh, and Inverness instead of St. Andrews. Did no realize there was not much in Oban. And, yes, somehow I am stuck on airports in Ireland-Glasgow to Dublin! I appreciate all the help-I certainly do not want to chase dots and miss all the beauty. I know my days in Scotland will be so much better now.
